Goals Setting

Many of my friends had recently emailed me with regards to their goals setting. They instinctively go ... "I want to lose weight, take care of my skin, keep fit...."

In the first instance, they have already missed the very basic points of goal setting - to think big and be specific.

How can you be BIG in your goals?
You must have a compeling DESIRE to achieve that goal. That goal will give you an overwhelming sensation to want to do it as you start searching for various options to achieve it. It will "switch" your thoughts constantly on the "get' a move on" burst of emotions. You will also experience a sensation of something "burning" in your heart, gut, and every part of your whole body!

How to be specific?
You will have to incorporate the rest of the S.M.A.R.T. goals to do this. (I know, it sound lame but it's true!)
For instance, to lose weight ... by how much are you trying to lose ... within a given timeframe (like months) ... what could you do - in terms of more nutricious diet and forms of exercise (on a consistent basis).
Also, what I found very useful here are using a visualization technique and having a powerful, compelling reason for doing it - losing weight.

For visualization, I would suggest having an edited picture of yourself upon a body that you would like your body to be like - if it's just to be fit, please don't choose a body-builder "body" but one that is a "right" fit for your expectation ... unless your goal is to be a champion in it, by all means train hard for it. (I believe the term here is the use of a "dream board" - kept for your eyes only ... unless you want to share it for supportive reasons.)

For a powerful and compelling reason, you might look around your family or friends or the society. In my case, I have seem too many people growing old and not healthy enough to look after themselves. With the many "busy-lives" their children lead, they ended up joining a nursing home. As such, my reason is to grow old gracefully with the ability to take care of myself and not burden anyone. I want to live life with minimal illnesses; and thus, exercising regularly and eating healthy are my answer. Of course, this will keep my weight in control.
